Dinsmore Reports On His 1st Race of the Year - The Bighouse Brawl

Our first race of the year, and we headed to the Bighouse -- CRANDON, WI. We felt good and when practice came the truck handled great, but our new carb was not set up the way Travis would have liked. So it was back to the pits, some adjustments were made, and the crew got the carb close enough that Travis shook the rust off and qualified 2nd in the Atturo Tires #43.

When the green flag dropped on Saturday he came around Corner One in the 4th spot. Some smooth driving soon moved his hotrod into the #3 slot. However, as the race progressed Travis was making time on the #2 truck when a rock got stuck in the throttle linkage hanging the throttle open and ending his run.

The crew went to work on the truck Saturday night and prepped it for Sunday. A different carb was mounted on top of the Pro Power engine and they were ready for the race.

Sunday's start resulted in 2 trucks getting together in Turn One. Travis narrowly missed the wreck and ended up at the tail end of the field. Through the first half of the race Travis tried to get around the 5th place truck several times and was forced to check up to avoid damage. When the restart flag came at half-way point,  the Atturo #43 was pointed hard into the barn turn taking the inside line again.

But the door was slammed closed.

Travis jumped hard on the brakes to avoid heavy contact and drove around the outside of the spinning truck. Through the next several laps his Pro Light Truck was tearing up the track making its way into the second position before the checkered flag flew. “I just needed a couple more laps and I would have had him too” exclaimed Travis, “this truck was set perfect, I could put it anywhere”

Dinsmore Racing Labor Day Weekend TORC Race Report from Crandon , WI

Travis Dinsmore and the Atturo Tires/ Sle-Co #43 Team headed to Crandon Wi. Labour Day weekend for the final round of TORC and the Red Bull World Cup.

The team new they would be fast and during practice the times showed that this truck would be hard to beat. Greg said “when we downloaded the lap times we knew the truck and Travis were ready, the difference between lap times did not vary by more than 3/10ths of a second on this long raceway”

Qualifying came on Saturday morning and Travis was conservative qualifying in the #6 spot, this was good, it would put the truck in a spot for the land-rush start that would give Travis a straight run to #1 corner.

When the flag waved for round 13 Travis and the #43 shot out into the lead through corner one, every lap Travis hit his marks on this high speed track and lead the field by the mandatory caution.


When the restart came Travis and the Atturo Tires #43 again jumped into the lead and finished 1st leading from flag to flag.

Sunday's qualifying for the World Cup Race would see the #43 in the second spot for the start of the race. When the race started lack of traction through a mud hole slowed the acceleration and Travis come out of corner 1 in the 8th spot.

The next few laps showed the skill of the driver and the speed of the #43 rocket when on lap 3, Travis drove his truck into the 1st position, making clean passes in the corners and out-accelerating the other trucks with the grip he found from his Atturo tires. When the mandatory caution came Travis was ready.

On the drop of the flag and once again the Sle-Co entry launched out into the lead and continued to hold off the other racers. With 2 laps remaining Travis came on the radio “the engine has started to make a different noise from the exhaust, something sounds wrong” with no smoke from the exhaust he was told to proceed and try to maintain the pace he was used to. With one lap left the radio silence broke again, “the engine has begun to pop through the carb and is laying down, it is getting lazy losing power bad.”

As the lap proceeded Travis nursed the #43 Atturo Tire/Sle-Co Pro light to the finish in 2nd place, a broken Valve Spring had taken away the World Cup win.

Atturo Pro Light Class Final Rounds - Replay Featuring Travis Dinsmore's Narrow Victory

TORC CRANDON RACE RECAP FROM DINSMORE RACING

After battling it out in Chicagoland the Sle-Co, Atturo Tires Pro Light team returned to headquarters in Ontario to re-prep the truck and repair minor fuel problems that had begun at the end of round 4 in Chicago. When Travis hit the dirt for practice on Friday, it was clear the team had worked hard to set the truck up right for the high speeds of Crandon Raceway, Dinsmore was only 0.02 seconds off the fastest lap. The #43 truck was consistent and during qualifying the following day Dinsmore earned the team a 4th starting position for Round 5.

Round 5 commenced with Travis Dinsmore rounding turn one in the 4th position. As the race progressed the #43 battled it’s way towards the front of the pack. Kyle Hart and Travis Dinsmore gave the spectators a great show battling it out for the number one position and by the mandatory caution Dinsmore was in 2nd place. When the flag dropped for the restart Kyle was in the lead with Travis hot on him. The two drove away from the pack with Travis diving in hard a couple times to try and take the front spot but could not safely make the pass. When the checkers flew it was Travis in second.

At the end of Round 5 the data obtained from the #43 truck indicated unfavorable transmission and engine temperatures. Travis said “the transmission was 426degrees and the engine was 258, this we will have to address” The team worked to fix overheating issues, flushing the plugged coolers from all the dirt that got thrown at the truck, ducting some more air in and making minor set-up adjustments.

When the green flag dropped on Sunday, Travis and the #43 Ford were not intimidated by the legendary land-rush start that Crandon International Raceway is known for. Dinsmore hit the first corner of Round 6 in the lead position and continued to lead a flawless race. At the mandatory caution Travis had achieved just over a 5 second lead. The restart came and Travis got the jump rocketing the truck towards the finish. Travis commanded the race and at the checked flag the #43 was in first by just over 7 seconds.

“Not sure how we got that hole shot but did those Atturo Tires dig and the Pro Power engine was flawless” commented Travis.

The team is excited to leave Crandon and head to Minnesota. After their great weekend with a win and a 2nd place finish, Travis now sits in second place in the points

Atturo Tires Race Team grabs first Pro Light win of 2016 in Crandon, WI! Returning to the scene of his historic first win for Atturo Tires, Travis Dinsmore continued his winning ways in Crandon, Wisconsin last weekend. The #43 SLE-CO/Atturo sponsored truck captured a second-place finish on Saturday, but the sophomore racer was not to be denied a win. On Sunday, Dinsmore was determined to take home gold in what has become his favorite track. Dinsmore scored 1st Place, giving Dinsmore and Atturo each their first Pro Light win of 2016! #151 Andrew Carlson joined Dinsmore on the podium Sunday with a 3rd place finish and a first-ever podium with 2 Atturo-equipped drivers. It was an outstanding weekend for Atturo! Crandon is the "Talladega of dirt tracks" as the teams put it, and drew in over 20,000 people to watch the races over the course of two days. As we fast approach the July 4th weekend, we want to wish all of our customers, dealers and friends a safe and happy Independence Day weekend. Atturo will be closed Monday, July 4th in observance of the holiday. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, July 5th.

Atturo Motorsports Ends the TORC Series at Crandon Showdown

Crandon, WI is the epitome of pro-light racing with 60, 000 fans lined up along the hill watching one of the world’s biggest off-road racing tracks. There's no better venue for the final rounds of the TORC series for the 2015 season. Atturo Tires participated in the events throughout the weekend with the kick off on Friday in town at the parade. The Atturo suburban and Andrew Carlson’s Ford F-150 sported the Atturo Trail Blade X/T’s,  and Travis Dinsmore drove his pro-light with the Atturo Trail Blade M/T’s. Our Atturo Motorsports race teams went above and beyond this year, and we presented them with their own Atturo personalized TRAXXAS trucks for all of their hard WORK. We had Andrew and Travis race the trucks on the mini track and Andrew took the win with his mini 151 Prolight. Both Carlson and Dinsmore teams had great pro practice and qualifying and really showed during the final when Travis Dinsmore rolled away with another podium!

Travis Dinsmore-43:

Coming off of a win in the last series in Crandon, Travis Dinsmore was confident he could repeat the performance for the last 2 rounds. Right from the start Dinsmore set fastest lap in practice. Then went on to qualify 2nd, Starting in the #1 position. #43 Travis Dinsmore grabbed the hole slot and led every lap of the world championship race, showing once again they are a dominating force in Crandon.

Sunday’s race would have them start in P2 where in an incident on the start Dinsmore was caught up in a wreck forcing him to the pit for repairs. Starting from the rear he quickly made his way up to 5th by the mandatory caution and going for 3rd on the outside clipped the barrier tearing a corner off the truck ending our day. Travis Dinsmore ended his season with 5 TORC podiums and 2 Lucas Oil podiums exceeding everyone's expectations. Preparations for 2016 have already begun and according to Travis, “we will settle for nothing less than a championship”.

Andrew Carlson-151:

Big speed, big thrills for Carlson at the Big House. Andrew Carlson came from a podium finish in Bark River and had his eye at being at the front of the pack again. After testing at Crandon the week before, Carlson’s confidence was high coming into the event. Saturday morning practice saw Carlson setting a blistering pace, only to end the session early as he slid over the cushion on a high-speed corner and went into a horrific tumble off the track. The Carlson Motorsports crew worked all day to get the truck ready for the final. Because of the crash he was unable to finish qualifying so he started in the back of the pack in the Saturday final. He was able to battle his way up to 10th place. Sunday brought nearly perfect conditions for qualifying and Carlson capitalized with fast lap times and a start near the front of the pack. He showed speed early, working his way up to third place by the midway point of the race.

His lap times were nearly identical to the leaders and it appeared as though Carlson was going to earn his second podium spot. Then, with two laps to go, Carlson high-sided the cushion while battling with another driver for position and slipped over the berm. His podium chances ended abruptly. USAC official said post-race: “No question that he’s the rookie of the year.” “Remarkable performance for a first-year driver in the toughest pro class.”

“Our results at the last race are not what we had hoped for, but I couldn’t be more proud of Andrew and our crew on the remarkable job they did this season,” said Chris Carlson, team owner of Carlson Motorsports. “This has been an incredible learning experience, especially when I think back to how we jumped-in head first without any real experience. We will be prepared next season and we look forward to contending for the season point’s championship.” Andrew Carlson ended an amazing 2015 rookie season with being number 8 in points and 4 top 5 finishes!


Congratulations to Travis Dinsmore and Andrew Carlson on an incredible year. The Atturo Motorsports team ended the 2015 TORC season on an incredible note with 6 podiums!
